Egg-ploring Education
An comprehensive 4-week in-class program designed to provide students with an immersive, hands-on learning experience. Throughout the program, students will have the unique opportunity to observe the fascinating development of chicks inside eggs, witnessing the hatching process firsthand. Led by Farmer Kathryn, who will visit the classroom at least four times (with additional visits available if needed), this program also includes valuable lessons on the different parts of an egg and the diverse range of animals that lay eggs. It’s an engaging and educational experience that brings science to life!
The program-
Week 1: We’ll introduce the incubator, ensuring it stabilizes at the proper temperature. Students will learn about hens, incubation, and the science behind hatching eggs. This visit takes 15-30 minutes
Week 2: Through an interactive story and engaging activities, students will explore the different parts of an egg. We’ll also introduce egg candling, allowing students to see the early stages of chick development inside the shell. This visit takes 30-60 minutes
Week 3: Students will discover a variety of animals that lay eggs through an educational story and hands-on activities. We’ll also check in on the eggs’ progress with another candling session. During this visit, teachers will receive guidance on preparing the incubator for the hatching stage. This visit takes 30-60 minutes
Week 4: The long-awaited moment arrives—chicks hatch! Students will observe this incredible process, listen to a final educational story, and have the special opportunity to gently hold and interact with the newly hatched chicks. This visit takes 30-60 minutes
The 2025 program is $75 per classroom. Multiple incubators are available, and discounts are offered for using more than one at a time. All materials are fully prepared and ready to use. This is an instructor led program, but adjustments can be made if the teacher requests. There may be additional fees to cover travel.

Important notices-
Placement and Handling: Incubators should be kept out of direct sunlight. Once set up, please avoid moving, lifting or opening the incubator.
Hatching Timeline: It typically takes three days from the first egg hatching to the time the incubator has to be turned off and the chicks are removed. While there is a strong chance students will witness chicks hatching, this is cannot be guaranteed.
Hatching Process: The hatching process can take up to 24 hours per egg. Please refrain from intervening during hatching, if concerns arise, contact us directly.
Hatch Rate: Approximately 70% of the eggs are expected to hatch. It is common for eggs to be infertile, stop developing, or fail to hatch. When booking the program, we will discuss the preferred approach to explaining this natural process to students.
Hatching eggs and chicks may pose health and safety risks. Proper hygiene procedures must be followed when handling eggs and chicks. This includes washing hands thoroughly before and after contact with eggs, and chicks.
