Traveling agriculture
I have always loved Michigan agriculture, especially growing up on my family’s farm. There’s something special about the fields, orchards, and hardworking communities that make up the backbone of our state’s agricultural industry. From corn and soybeans to cherries and apples, Michigan offers an incredible diversity of crops. But as much as I love my home state, traveling outside of Michigan and seeing different types of agriculture is an eye-opening and inspiring experience.
This time, I’m off to Arizona, a place known for its unique climate and agricultural diversity. Unlike Michigan’s rich, rain-fed soil, Arizona’s farming relies heavily on irrigation, transforming the arid landscape into thriving agricultural hubs. I’m especially excited because I’ll be staying at an Airbnb surrounded by a small 15-acre farm.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Arizona’s agriculture is its ability to produce crops that thrive in the desert. From vast cotton fields to vineyards and citrus orchards, this state showcases just how adaptable farming can be. The use of sustainable irrigation techniques, like drip irrigation, is something I’m hoping to see up close.
Agriculture is truly an amazing industry—resilient, innovative, and essential. Every region has its own challenges and solutions, and traveling to different states offers a new perspective on how farmers adapt to their environment. I’m looking forward to learning more about Arizona’s farming practices and how sustainability plays a role in this climate.
